The Taliban spokesperson, Ahmadullah Wasiq announced on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, the formation of the new Afghan government headed by Mullah Mohammad Hassan Akhund, and Taliban Movement co-founder Abdul Ghani Baradar, as number two in the new executive.

The names of the first Key Ministers were also unveiled.

“We agreed that we would announce a new government, before a formal ceremony can be held,” Wasiq wrote on Twitter. “Some members” of the new executive will be announced at a press conference,” he added.

The formation of the new Taliban-led government comes three weeks after the Islamist movement took power in Afghanistan. The Taliban previously promised to establish an inclusive government for all Afghans. That statement was made while rejecting notions that the new government would be democratically elected.

As a majority of foreign countries have declared they are not yet considering recognizing the Taliban government, protests erupted this Tuesday morning outside the Pakistani embassy in Kabul against the alleged involvement of the Pakistani government in Afghanistan’s domestic affairs. Further similar protests are likely in the near future.
