Violent demonstrations shook the capital city of N’djaména on Thursday, October 20, 2022, to protest the extension of the transitional government’s term of office.

Several people were injured in violent clashes between police and protesters, particularly in the “15 years” neighborhood of Moundou and on Avenue Taiwan in the Habbena neighborhood of N’Djamena. Police reportedly used live ammunition in some areas, and at least four people were killed.

Several roads were blocked, either by security forces or with barricades erected by protesters.

Similar demonstrations were also reported in several other cities across the country, including Abeche in Ouaddaï province.
